SERVICE SCOPE
3 Penetration Testing areas at IPSIP Vietnam
IPSIP Vietnam delivers penetration testing across three core areas. The assets, testing methodology, and engagement boundaries are agreed upon before testing begins to protect systems currently in operation.
01
Web and mobile applications
We test websites, web applications, and mobile applications to identify weaknesses in authentication, authorization, data handling, and business logic that could lead to unauthorized access or data exposure.
02
Network infrastructure and servers
We assess external and internal network environments and servers, including exposed services, system configurations, and access privileges, to identify potential entry points, privilege escalation paths, and lateral movement risks.
03
Real-world attack simulation and security awareness testing
Within an approved scope, IPSIP Vietnam specialists conduct controlled attack and social-engineering simulations, such as phishing emails, to assess how effectively employees and IT teams recognize, respond to, and report potential threats.
ASSESSMENT METHODS EXPLAINED
How does Vulnerability Scanning differ from Penetration Testing?
Both approaches help organizations identify security weaknesses, but they differ in the level of validation and the objectives of the assessment.
VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT
Vulnerability scanning
Vulnerability scanning relies primarily on automated tools to detect and classify potential weaknesses across websites, systems, and infrastructure.
The results identify areas where security risks may exist and require further review.
PENETRATION TESTING
Penetration Testing
Penetration testing combines purpose-built tools with hands-on manual testing to determine whether a weakness can actually be exploited.
Testing is conducted within a controlled scope to assess real-world impact and help the organization prioritize remediation.
Vulnerability scanning identifies potential weaknesses. Penetration testing goes further by validating exploitability and real-world impact. Both approaches can be combined based on the organization’s assessment objectives.
WHEN TO TEST
When conduct a Penetration Test?
Penetration testing should be considered when systems change, new risks emerge, or customers, partners, and auditors request security assurance.
Organizations do not need to wait for an incident. Testing frequency and timing should reflect the assets involved, the data processed, the rate of change, and the actual risk of each system.
Not sure what should be tested?
IPSIP Vietnam helps define the relevant assets, testing objectives, and assessment approach before planning the engagement.
01
Before go-live
Testing before Go-live helps identify exploitable weaknesses before the application begins handling real users and data.
02
After major changes
Changes to architecture, Cloud environments, APIs, configurations, or access controls may introduce weaknesses that were not present during the previous assessment.
03
After an incident or critical vulnerability
Once the incident is under control, Pentesting helps assess remaining weaknesses, potential attack chains, and the effectiveness of remediation measures.
04
When requested by stakeholders
Customers, partners, or auditors may request Pentest results as technical evidence for an information security assessment.
05
When systems process critical data
Systems storing customer data, personal data, or information supporting core operations should be assessed according to their level of risk.
06
Based on the risk assessment Cycle
Businesses can conduct Pentests periodically based on asset criticality, the frequency of system changes, and internal governance requirements.
TESTING APPROACHES
How do Black Box, Grey Box, and White Box testing differ?
The three approaches differ in the amount of information and level of access provided to the penetration testing team. The appropriate approach is selected based on the engagement objectives, scope, and required testing depth.
EXTERNAL_INTEL
Black Box Testing
The penetration testing team is provided with no internal information beyond the agreed testing targets.
This approach simulates the perspective of an external attacker to identify weaknesses that can be discovered and exploited through publicly accessible systems.
HYBRID_ACCESS
Grey Box Testing
The penetration testing team is provided with limited system information or a user account with restricted privileges.
This approach assesses authenticated functionality, access controls, and risks that could be exploited by a user or threat actor who has already gained initial access.
FULL_SOURCE_AUDIT
White Box Testing
The penetration testing team is provided with the necessary technical information, such as system architecture, test accounts, configurations, or source code within the approved scope.
This approach supports an in-depth assessment and helps identify the technical root causes of security weaknesses.

CONTROLLED TESTING
The Penetration Testing process: From scoping to retesting
PHASE 01 - SCOPE
Define the scope and testing authorization
IPSIP Vietnam works with the organization to define the objectives, websites, applications, IP addresses, accounts, and environments authorized for testing.
The Penetration Testing team performs activities only against assets and access levels explicitly approved by the organization.
PHASE 02 - PLANNING
Establish the plan and rules of engagement
Both parties agree on the testing approach, environment, schedule, exploitation limits, critical-finding escalation process, and conditions for stopping the assessment.
Tests that could cause disruption are performed only with separate approval.
PHASE 03 - TESTING
Conduct controlled Penetration Testing
IPSIP specialists combine purpose-built tools with hands-on manual analysis to identify and validate exploitable weaknesses within the agreed scope.
Both parties maintain designated points of contact throughout the engagement. Testing is paused if the environment becomes unstable or unexpected impact occurs.
PHASE 04 - REPORTING
Analyze findings and deliver the report
Findings are assessed based on exploitability, severity, and potential impact on business operations.
The Penetration Testing report provides technical evidence, affected assets, and prioritized remediation recommendations.
PHASE 05 - RETESTING
Support remediation and conduct retesting
IPSIP Vietnam reviews the results, explains the technical root causes, and helps the organization determine an appropriate remediation approach.
Once remediation is complete, findings within the agreed scope are retested to verify the results.

Why do organizations choose IPSIP Vietnam for Penetration Testing?
Effective penetration testing goes beyond identifying vulnerabilities. Organizations need a provider that can test within a controlled scope, clearly explain business impact, and support remediation after the assessment.
Controlled Testing
The scope, methodology, and Rules of Engagement are agreed upon before testing begins to minimize impact on systems currently in operation.
Clear, actionable results
Each report presents the risk level, technical evidence, potential impact, and appropriate remediation guidance for every finding.
Tool-assisted and manual testing
Each engagement has clearly defined objectives, assets, testing methods, and boundaries. IPSIP specialists combine purpose-built tools with hands-on manual analysis, reference OWASP WSTG, and operate only within the approved scope.
Post-assessment support
IPSIP Vietnam reviews the findings, provides remediation guidance, and conducts retesting within the agreed scope to verify vulnerability status.
